It's time to sack the brown bag lunch, unless you can keep it in the fridge. A Texas study of 700 pre-school lunches found that an astounding 98% of them contained foods that were either too hot ( above 40 degrees for found to be kept cold, such as meat and milk) or too cold ( below 140 degrees for foods, like soup, which need to stay hot.) Holy salmonella, Batman!
Experts recommend that you freeze foods and drinks the night before, keep fruits in the fridge, use only insulated lunch bags or boxes, and use multiple ice packs. For hot foods, boil water and pour into a thermos for several minutes before putting the hot food in.
