Wii Fit? Oui, A Bit

The original Wii Fit exercise releases weren't all that great.
Of course, you'll say that "something is better than nothing." I'll agree-to a point. I don't like companies misleading people, however unintentionally, for profit. People should realize what it really takes to get fit and stay fit ; and it's not in "20" minute Crossfit sessions, or "the four-hour body" or Zumba or P90X.

And it's still not through recently studied Wii Fit programs, although they could play a part within a fitness program for sedentary and/or untrained individuals.

The three Wii programs profiled are: intermediate hula, beginner step, and intermediate step. The study showed that both of the intermediate programs provided a level of activity equal to walking at 2.5-3.5 miles per hour, which is on the low end of what is considered moderate exercise. The highest recorded energy expenditure was 4.7 kcal/minute.

That means an average person could meet their recommended minimum level of aerobic exercise by performing at least 2-1/2 hours of Wii Fit hula per week.

The VO2max levels between 30-39% are also lower than that recommended by the ACSM for cardiorespiratory fitness.

So, you get a "wee" bit of benefit in my book. Au revoir until next time.
