Congratulations to the Navy Seals for their impressive action in Pakistan. We all know that the Seals are brave, smart, tough, and fit.
How fit? Check this out:
1. Seal prospects must pass a rigorous set of physical performance tests in order to enter the training program. (Keep in mind that the Seals' prospect aims for as high a score as possible.)
Swim 500 yards( aim for 8 minutes in order to be competitive.)
Maximum push-ups in 2 minutes ( minimum = 42, average is 100)
Maximum sit-ups in 2 minutes (minimum =52, average is 100)
Maximum pull-upswith no time limit (minimum 8, average is about 20)
1.5 mile run in boots (11:30 is minimum, 9 minutes is competitive)
2. If admitted, here is the "first phase" of training requirements:
50 meter underwater swim
Underwater knot tying
Drown proofing test
Basic Lifesaving test
1200 meter pool swim with fins (45 minutes)
1 mile bay swim with fins (50 minutes)
1 mile ocean swim with fins (50 minutes)
1-1/2 mile ocean swim with fins (70 minutes)
2 mile ocean swim with fins (95 minutes)
Obstacle course (15 minutes)
4 mile run (32 minutes)
3. After "hell week" (during which trainees train very hard and sleep only a total of 4 hours!), the trainees must pass the following:
2000 meter condition pool swim without fins
1-1/2 mile night bay swim with fins
2 mile ocean swim with fins (85 minutes)
4 mile run in boots (32 minutes)
Obstacle course (13 minutes)
4. "Second Phase":
2 mile ocean swim with fins (80 mis)
4 mile run in boots (31 minutes)
Obstacle course (10:30)
3-1/2 mile ocean swim with fins
5-1/2 mile ocean swim with fins
5. "Third Phase":
Obstacle course (10 minutes)
4 mile run in boots (30 minutes)
14 mile run
2 mile ocean swim with fins (75 minutes)
