Medication Time. Medication Time.
So I just read that the CDC reports that U.S. consumption of antidepressants has increased by 400% since the 1980's. That statistic, in itself, is depressing. Are Americans really that unhappy or are they turning to pharmaceuticals because they are an effortless path to feeling better, and feeling better immediately?
I vote for the latter. Because, although it is commonly known that exercise helps with the symptoms of depression, it's just too much effort . Popping pills is the preferred method of treating almost every affliction. And the majority of those taking antidepressants had not even seen a mental health professional in the past year. Probably because they are afraid they might lose their drugs. That's what makes me sad.
