Chesty Puller Never Quits

And neither should you- doing pushup variations, that is. Chesty Puller was the most decorated Marine, ever. He earned his nickname for both his strong, barrel chest and his legendary fearlessness in combat.

Marines often invoke his name when exhorting their colleagues to perform more exercise repetitions. A recent study of types of pushups calculated what percentage of one's bodyweight is used for each type. Knowing this can help you load or de-load depending on your fitness level and training goals.

During a standard pushup(PUP), you lift 65% of your bodyweight(BW). A 12" decline PUP uses 70%, and a 24" decline uses 75%.

A 12" incline PUP employs 55% BW, a 24" incline 40%, and from your knees, 50%. You can perform a killer mechanical drop set of decline/standard/incline at the end of a chest workout. Perform each version to failure for a real pump that would make Chesty proud.
