ESPN the Magazine recently published its "money" issue, filled with all sorts if useless trivia, like how closets, bowl invites, and big-name college football coaches are overvalued.
What was interesting to me, however, is how much money it costs a mid-ranked WTA player to pursue her sport. Ranked number 163 worldwide, Coco Vandeweghe made $157,387 in prize money in 2011.
And that seems like good pay for playing a game that you love. But her expenses totaled $189,600. That includes $9000 for a fitness coach ( well worth the money, I'm sure!), $36,000 for a coach, $9000 for a sports psychologist, and $3600 for a "sparring partner."
I say ditch the psychologist.
