After discussing so-called "military posture" yesterday, today we'll cover swayback. This is a posture that I like to call "slacker" posture because I see it in so many young men often accompanied with a forward head posture and kyphosis( see below.) Their butts' appear nonexistent.
This flat back position is a result of a posterior pelvic tilt which shortens the hamstrings.
The kyphotic position results from weak thoracic extensors; and the neck flexors are also weak.
The intercostals and upper rectus abdominus are tight, whereas the lower RA is weak.
Knees may also be slightly hyperextended with this posture as well.
Once again, fixing the postural elements before any type of loading occurs is key to ensuring proper biomechanics and helping to stay injury-free.
"When marimba rhythms start to play, dance with me, make me sway..." (Dean Martin, Sway)
