You Talkin' To Me?




In my last few posts, I covered postural issues that can contribute to injuries and decreased athletic performance. Today: kyphosis ( pictured above.)

The kyphotic or round-shouldered posture is usually accompanied by the head-forward position as shown in the above picture of Robert De Niro's Travis Bickle.
And it is typical of people ( like taxi drivers, for instance) who spend their days seated and hunched forward.

The result: the pecs, intracostals, and rectus abdominus are shortened and tightened. The lower traps and deltoids are lengthened and weakened.

The fix? First, stretch the pecs, and anterior shoulders, and intracostals. Then, strengthen the upper back musculature, including scapular stabilizers, and cervical flexors.

Thoracic mobility will also have to be addressed.
