You're Not Being the Ball, Danny

According to Dr. Jeff Blanchard, golfinjurydoctors.com, the average golfer suffers from at least one of three "conditions" which conspire to adversely affect golf performance and lead to injury.

Because of lack of strength and flexibility, especially around the hips and torso, most golfers end up in compensatory positions that produce less-than-optimal swing mechanics. And, since the average golfer's swing speed is around 90m.p.h., these stresses can be extremely harmful.

Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In

Dr. Blanchard identifies three postural "conditions" that must be addressed to ensure good biomechanics.

Condition 1: characterized by hyperlordosis, 1 or both feet everted, forward head posture.

Condition 2: rotated pelvis, low shoulder, uneven pelvis

Condition 3: hypolordosis, round shoulders, forward head tilt, knee flexion

Many people exhibit combinations of these conditions. Of course, other athletes and non-athletes alike will benefit from postural analysis and corrective exercises.

Check with your fitness professional for corrective exercises, such as supine groin stretches, pelvic tilts, foot circles and elbow curls ( no, not the 12 oz. variety.)
