Dr. Wayne Westcott reports in a recent issue of ACSM's Certified News that post-resistance training muscle remodeling is responsible for increasing resting energy expenditure(REE) by 5-9% for the 72 hours following the session.
With a 1600 kcal/day REE, a 7% average increase would mean 110 kcal/day in additional energy expenditure for people performing 2 sessions per week.
So not only are you burning additional energy during the strength training session, your motor is continuing to rev at a higher level for up to 3 days after strength training.
How about them apples?
