Trinidad Spider Butch T

No, it's not the name of an MMA fighter ( although it would be a good one). It's the name of a really red hot chili pepper. In fact, it's now officially the world's hottest, clocking in at 1,430,700 Scovilles. It beat out the previous pepper, the Nagu Jolokia, which rated a mere 1,050,000 Scovilles.

For comparison sake, a jalapeƱo pepper lands between 2500 and 8000 Scovilles, and commercially available pepper spray is between 2 and 5.3 million Scovilles. So what does this have to do with health or fitness? Well, the capsacin in the peppers is really good for you.

Capsacin is the active ingredient in peppers, and is considered an irritant to mammals. It does, however, stimulate the metabolism, help lower blood pressure, and contain vitamins A and C. It also contains bioflavonoids. So, while you don't necessarily have to go all Man vs. Food with the Butch T pepper, try getting more capsacin in your diet.
